Perry upset over Aerosmith tour

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry has spoken of his frustration at the cancellation of the band's tour after Steven Tyler fell off stage last month.

Last month, the group announced they were sidelining the rest of their North American tour, due to finish on 16 September, because of Tyler's injuries.

The singer, 61, broke his left shoulder in Sturgis, South Dakota, on 5 August.

Perry said he had not spoken to Tyler for five weeks. "I don't know what's going on with him," he said.

The Sturgis concert where Tyler sustained his injury had already been delayed by heavy thunderstorms.

The rest of the tour was cancelled after doctors told him he needed time to recuperate from his fall.

I hear he's getting better but I don't really know what's going on with him

Joe Perry on Steven Tyler
Perry told the Associated Press news agency he was upset by the cancellation because "the tour was building up to a great tour".

He added: "Right before that, he had pulled a muscle in his leg.

"And we had to take two weeks off and we missed probably seven dates."

He said: "I hear he's getting better but I don't really know what's going on with him."

But, despite hinting at differences within Aerosmith, Perry said he was there was "still life left in the old band".

"All I know is he [Tyler] has got to get his act together.

"I mean he and I haven't written a song together alone in the same room in over 10 years so there's been some changes in paradigm of what Aerosmith is."

A representative of the band was not available for comment.

Speaking after the accident, the singer said he was doing "the Tyler shuffle" when he slipped and fell.

"I'm plain grateful that I didn't break my neck," he added.

House GOP used the Aerosmith song

GOP's they were attractive yesterday about that new troops-rallying video from Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) that used old song Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle" to declare that "The House GOP is back" thanks to the party's common opposition to the incentive. But unluckily, Aerosmith wasn't feeling the love. Cantor's clip has been pulled from YouTube after a copyright violation claim made by Stage Three Music, which owns the rights to "Back in the Saddle."The GOP's use of the tune "was a little we, as the publishers, didn't approve and would not have accepted without going to the writers," Connie Ashton, director of copyright and licensing at Stage Three, told me. "Aerosmith did not supported of its use and also wanted to have it taken down," she added.Ashton added that House Republicans never contacted Stage Three to put in a request for use of "Back in the Saddle." Maybe they assumed it was okay because Joe Perry authorized McCain last year.

Introduction to Aerosmith

Aerosmith is a prominent American rock band. Although they are known as a Boston, Massachusetts band, none of the members are actually from that city. Three of the members, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, and Tom Hamilton had originally met in Sunapee, New Hampshire in the late 60’s, but had not yet formed a band together. Tyler was from Yonkers, New York, Perry from Hopedale, Massachusetts, and Hamilton from New London, New Hampshire. In 1970, the three decided they would form a band together, and that Boston, Massachusetts would be the place to do it. Later they met up with Joey Kramer (drums) and Brad Whitford (rhythm guitar).

The band enjoyed major popularity throughout the 1970’s, but they split from 1979-84 due to serious substance abuse and drug addictions that contributed to their decline. The Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia reportedly said they were “the druggiest bunch of guys I’ve ever seen.” Jimmy Crespo replaced Joe Perry during those five years. However, in 1984, chiefly due to the tireless efforts of Joe Perry’s then manager, Tim Collins, to reform the band, Aerosmith was born again. Despite his own client Perry’s insistence that it was unthinkable, Collins succeeded in helping the band resolve old differences and ultimately overcome their addictions. By 1989, the band had completely stopped their drug abuse. They went on to enjoy a resurgence in popularity that has made them one of top-selling and most popular rock bands in the world today. Their greatest worldwide hit was “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing,” from the blockbuster-hit movie “Armageddon”.
